PACE 2000 Virtual Intergenerational network is growing...
By Liane Meunier

Like a blooming flower in spring, PACE 2000 Intergenerational virtual village is growing at the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre. Monday mornings, some of the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre's residents have been meeting at "The Friendly Corner" to chat with the young and the wiser thanks to the bridging of videoconference and the interaction of intergenerational coordinators. One Monday, we had three birthdays to celebrate, John St-Louis, Bob Greeley from the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre and Mrs Hedge from Centre d'accueil Champlain (CAC) who had a nice choir of 14 people to wish them a Happy Birthday! The children's voices sure stirred up some old memories amongst the seniors... Afterwards, we all got to dream and share with the groups where we would go if we had a Concord to fly us anywhere in the world. The children's enthusiasm was contagious as the seniors faces lit up as they talked or listened with open minds. Agathe D'Errico, who has brought her grade 6 classes to the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre throughout the year, attends these videoconference sessions and has invited some of her students.

There are also the sessions of Wheel of Fortune that go on weekly and bring on new champions every time... The Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre residents have the opportunity to connect through videoconference with participants at the Centre Pauline Charron as well as immigrants of all ages at the Catholic Immigration Center. These are especially interesting and fun because you can meet people from all over the world, ask them questions about their country or give them good ole Canadian advice! Of course, for those competitors, the challenge is always up for you to win...

Last but not least, reverend Jean-Marc Gagné has been leading our "Spiritual Moments" every Thursday afternoon and has shared with the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre and CAC interesting details on the Bible as well as the Sacraments. We are also very fortunate to hear Mme Ayotte`s (CAC) weekly meditations for the rosary and other participants personal religious and heart warming stories.

These videoconference experiences brought on by PACE 2000 have connected the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre residents to various people in three different centres and has thus, opened windows on the community to those in the Perley Rideau interested to take look.
